What do you cary?

Well I thought I should make a post so I decided it would be about my laptop. 😛 Well for the last 2 days I have been bring my laptop to school. It’s very handy to have insted of using the schools computers. Anyways I’v found my self caring around quite a load in the laptop case case. I got 3 eathernet cables (one 25′ and two 6′), D-link 604 router, router power supply, Thumb Drive and laptop power supply… O yeah and my laptop. 😛

Your next question is, “Why does Blake have all this?”.

Router: Because you never know where you want to have a LAN party.

25′ Eathernet Cable: In case you get hungry and don’t feel like switching from CAT5 to wireless just to go to the kitchen.
“Whats next?” Well I got a 12V battery here. I’m thinking of finding a 12V to 5V transformer so I can have a LAN party without having to worrie about plugs. 😛

And my girlfriend thinks I’m nuts… I think not!

RAID?!?!?!

Ok not the bug spray Raid, the drive configuration RAID. I’m now using RAID 0 (for speed) to handle the My Documents folder and Movies that I have. Setting it up was fairly strait forword. I did alot of reading of my motherboards user manual on how to set it up. I havn’t done any huge video editing yet but I have done some large file transfers and it is much faster then the standered IDE system.

I recommend using two of the exact same drive. Right now I’m running it with a 20G and a 40G but I can only use the max of 20G. But boy is it a fast 20G. Next up on my todo list is cooling. With three hard disk together this thing is heating up very quickly. I think I’m going to need to eather put bigger fans in or figure out another way of spacing the drives out because at this rate, I don’t no how much longer the drives can stand up to the heat.

6.06 KDE

Well last week I update my Ubuntu linux to 6.06 latest and greatest. 😀 Anyways, I was sick of Gnome as it has been causing problems ever since I installed it so just after updating I took the KDE plunge. So far so good. I love the GUI much better then Gnome. It does take a littel wile longer to start on boot up, but other then that it runs like a charm. Here’s a screenshot.

KDE Screenshot 1

It’s realy great! I got my local weather down in the corner and my amaroK media track info there as well. So now I only use my Windows XP for gaming and other then that, every thing else I do is on Kubuntu. I recommend to try it. Who knows mabey you’ll like it!

Back and Forth

Well for the last few weeks I have been using linux. For awile I went back to windows but eventualy, after getting a frigin virus because of certain family members, I moved back to Ubuntu linux just because Windows was pi$$ing me off to the max. The only resone for using windows is just because my games won’t run any other way and because of my web cam but thats no big deal. I’m currently figuring out how C and how to make commands for the shell. I will post more when I learn more. 😀

Linux 32-bit

Well yesterday at about 3:00 AM, I formated my linux hrad drive (agen) and installed Ubuntu 32-bit. 64 bit wasn’t good for me alot of apps don’t run. Anyways I am now a 32 bit user and every thing looks exactly the same so I won’t bother wasting space lol
